Demon, my Bull Snake

Demon is a bull snake from western North America. He joined my sanctuary in January 2016, when he was a very young snake, so he is at least 6-7 years old. He got his name because when he was very young he loved to bite repeatedly every time he was held. Now he does not bite and is a very friendly snake. The formal name is Pituophis catenifer sayi, related to gopher snakes and pine snakes. Demon is a Stillwater variant of bull snake, many of them are quite dark colored. He almost looks like a different snake towards his tail.

Bull snakes have a very high metabolism and poop within 2-3 days after eating. They can produce a very loud hissing noise and vibrate their tails when disturbed making people mistake them for rattlesnakes resulting in people killing them without cause. He is a constrictor, non-venomous snake and they are egg laying. He will eat rats, and baby chicks.

He is a very curious and inquisitive snake, and can move very fast across the floor if allowed to roam freely, he will follow your hand besides his cage readily. He is one of my more favorite snakes and is a very interactive guy.
